"The world was young, the mountains green,
No stain yet on the Moon was seen,
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke and walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells;
He drank from yet untasted wells;
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere,
And saw a crown of stars appear,
As gems upon a silver thread,
Above the shadow of his head."
J.R.R. Tolkien.
This sword was forged by David DelaGardelle, the overall
design of this sword was inspired by both original modern
stylistic shapes and motifs along with some early historic
celtic swords.
The blade was fully forged from a piece of 80+ year old leaf
spring. The guard pommel & fittings were made from 100
year old iron off of an old farming wagon. And the wood for
the handle and sheath is cherry with a tungoil finish for
protection.
The carvings were highly inspired by the poetry of J.R.R.
Tolkien and some traditional Celtic & Irish folk music.
Those two together inspired the idea for a rustic aged feel
with carvings of knot work, pine trees, the dwarf, and the
tall lone mountain.
